Masdar City Begins Autonomous Vehicle Trials to Advance Sustainable Urban Mobility
Masdar City, a global hub for innovation and sustainability, has commenced testing autonomous vehicles as part of its strategy to revolutionize urban transportation. Announced during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), this initiative underscores Masdar City’s leadership in clean and connected mobility solutions.
As the Strategic Partner of the World Future Energy Summit, Masdar City is showcasing its commitment to creating an integrated and sustainable urban mobility ecosystem. The testing program represents a significant milestone in promoting zero-emission transportation and developing autonomous technologies for urban settings.
The initial vehicle under testing is a shuttle-style electric vehicle equipped with cutting-edge LIDAR sensors, advanced software, and electronic components, enabling it to independently navigate obstacles and operate autonomously. This marks the first phase of a broader program that will include testing vehicles from multiple global brands.
Masdar City plans to deploy a fleet of seven autonomous vehicles based on the trial outcomes, reinforcing its goal of achieving a zero-emission transportation ecosystem.
“These trials represent a key step in establishing Masdar City as a global benchmark for zero-emission autonomous mobility,” said Ahmed Baghoum, CEO of Masdar City. “Collaborating with global innovators allows us to identify the most effective solutions for our community and beyond.”
