Samsung has officially announced its next Unpacked event, scheduled for July 9, 2025. This year’s showcase will take place in Brooklyn, New York marking a shift from previous launch cities like Paris and Seoul. The event kicks off at 10:00 a.m. ET / 7:00 a.m. PT and will be streamed live on Samsung’s website and YouTube channel.
While Samsung hasn’t confirmed exact product details, the teaser image and short promotional video drop a few hints. Most notably, a bold one-liner from Samsung hints at deeper AI integration: “With AI leading the way, Galaxy devices are evolving from reactionary smartphones to anticipatory smart companions transforming how we communicate, create, and connect.” This clearly suggests a focus on more proactive, AI-driven features.
Although no hardware specs have been shared officially, the theme of evolution and intelligence aligns with the broader industry trend of AI-powered personalization. If Samsung delivers what it’s teasing, expect these foldables to do more than just bend they might actually think ahead for you.
‘Ultra Unfolds’: A New Tier for Foldables?
Samsung’s teaser ends with the words “ultra unfolds,” strongly indicating a potential new branding tier for its foldable lineup. Much like its Galaxy S Ultra series, the new foldables may push top-tier specifications across the board. From the screen to the hinge, camera, and performance, everything could be getting the “Ultra” treatment.
In fact, a recent post on Samsung’s U.S. newsroom echoed this push toward premium:
“The demand is clear an Ultra-experience that goes beyond a simple list of upgraded features in a smaller and more portable form factor.”
This seems to confirm that Samsung is aiming to merge power and portability in a way it hasn’t before. Furthermore, the brand highlights “industry-leading hardware,” “seamless AI integration,” and the ability to transform the device into an immersive hub or powerful workspace. That transformation appears to be the central idea behind this launch.
These hints suggest Samsung may bypass traditional numbering altogether. Instead of the expected Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7, we might see models named Galaxy Z Flip Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold Ultra or even an entirely new “Z Ultra” category introduced alongside the annual refreshes.
Leaks Point to Thinner Designs and Expanded Displays
Though Samsung is keeping official details quiet, leaks have filled in some of the blanks. According to early CAD files and image leaks, both the new Z Flip and Z Fold devices appear slimmer than their predecessors. One visual from the teaser video shows two ultra-thin halves separating implying a serious reduction in bulk.
For the Z Flip, rumors point to a larger, edge-to-edge cover display, similar to Motorola’s latest Razr. This could allow apps to run without opening the device, enhancing convenience. On the Z Fold side, leaked specs suggest a closed thickness of just 9mm and an unfolded thickness of only 4.54mm. That would place the foldable in direct competition with standard smartphones in terms of sleekness.
If these improvements are accurate, they could significantly enhance usability and portability. While Samsung hasn’t confirmed these features, the company clearly understands the demand for lighter, smarter devices.
We’ll know everything soon enough stay tuned for full coverage from the July 9 event.
