Instagram has finally released a native iPad app today. Previously, iPad users relied on the iPhone app or the web version, which were not optimized for larger screens. Now, the app defaults to the Reels screen, so users see short videos on a larger display.
What’s New on iPad
Additionally, the iPad app offers nearly all phone-app consumption features. Moreover, Stories appear at the top, and a left-hand sidebar provides quick access to DMs, Search, Explore, and notifications. Specifically, the Feed includes three views: All for recommended content, Friends for mutuals, and Latest for chronological posts. Furthermore, users can reorder these feeds to prioritize what they prefer. Additionally, when watching a Reel, comments appear beside the video, and messages display on the left for easier multitasking. Importantly, the app adapts its layout to the iPad screen rather than simply scaling up the phone interface.
Availability and Context
The app supports iPads running iOS 15.1 or later. Initially, the company prioritized other features, but the new release focuses on a better tablet experience. Consequently, longtime users now have a native option that improves browsing and multitasking on larger screens. Finally, the app aims to make content consumption more comfortable for iPad users.
