Impact of Google’s job cuts reaches experienced double-click ad tech personnel

Google’s recent job cuts have resulted in the departure of several company veterans who played crucial roles in building its successful display advertising business, which is now facing scrutiny from the US government. According to sources and LinkedIn posts, at least five executives in Google’s ad tech division have lost their jobs as part of the reduction.

Three of the executives joined Google through its acquisition of DoubleClick, a prominent ad-tech firm, in 2007, which propelled the company to become a dominant player in the digital advertising industry.

While some of these executives later moved to different parts of the company, their departure may indicate a shift away from the business that has faced privacy and antitrust challenges.

Recently, the US Department of Justice sued Alphabet Inc.’s Google for illegally monopolizing digital advertising technology. The lawsuit, along with eight states, argues that the acquisition of DoubleClick marked the “first step in Google’s march to monopoly.”
