Tombot Unveils Jennie, a Hyper-Realistic Robotic Puppy Designed for Dementia Support

US-based robotics company Tombot has introduced Jennie, a lifelike robotic puppy powered by AI and a rechargeable battery, aimed at providing emotional support and companionship to individuals with cognitive health challenges. Designed in collaboration with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, Jennie mimics the appearance and behavior of a small Labrador Retriever puppy.

Developed by Tombot CEO Tom Stevens as a response to his mother’s struggle with dementia, Jennie features touch sensors, AI-generated sounds, and voice-responsive behaviors to recreate the experience of interacting with a real pet. The robotic companion addresses the needs of those with mild cognitive impairment, depression, PTSD, or loneliness.

Tombot highlights that robotic pets like Jennie can help reduce symptoms of dementia, such as hallucinations and agitation, while offering an accessible alternative to traditional pet ownership. Jennie’s software can be personalized through a smartphone app, which also allows for monitoring engagement and naming the robotic puppy. Regular updates will expand Jennie’s capabilities, ensuring it remains a valuable tool for caregivers and medical professionals.
