Huawei has introduced the Mate 70 Air, which arrives as the thinnest smartphone the company has produced. The device aims to compete more directly with the iPhone Air by offering a premium build at a significantly lower price point. Although it measures 6.6mm thick and weighs 208 grams, it still manages to include a larger 7-inch OLED display, stereo speakers, and a 6,500mAh battery. The design creates fewer trade-offs than the e-SIM-only competitor, which gives the Mate 70 Air an advantage for users who prioritize features.
Performance and Camera Enhancements
The Mate 70 Air runs on the in-house Kirin 9020 chipset, and HarmonyOS 5.1 powers the overall experience. As a result, the device delivers stronger performance across multitasking and media use. It offers up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, which helps it appeal to power users. The camera system includes a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP telephoto lens, and an 8MP ultra-wide macro lens. Additionally, a Red Maple primary colour camera improves colour accuracy, so photos appear more true to life.
Competitive Pricing Strategy
Huawei is offering the Mate 70 Air for preorder in China at CNY4,199 ($590). This pricing positions the device well below the $999 iPhone Air, which strengthens its appeal for consumers seeking premium features without paying a flagship price. Because the smartphone combines thin design, strong specs, and a lower cost, it is expected to attract considerable attention in the market.
