Huawei unveils HarmonyOS 5 with AI Features for PCs
Huawei has introduced HarmonyOS 5, its self-developed operating system designed specifically for PCs. Announced at the HarmonyOS Computer Technology and Ecosystem Communication event in China, HarmonyOS 5 is based on the company’s earlier mobile operating system, HarmonyOS Next, and has been developed independently of Android. The new OS promises to enhance the user experience with AI features, improved performance, and greater connectivity across devices.
Key Features of HarmonyOS 5
One of the standout features of HarmonyOS 5 is its onboard AI assistant. This assistant offers impressive capabilities, including document translation in 21 languages, summarization, and even generating reports or travel itineraries. It supports multimodal interactions, allowing users to engage with the assistant through voice, text, or images. Additionally, the assistant can analyze the content currently on the screen, providing responses tailored to the user’s needs.
The OS also includes enhanced multitasking capabilities, such as a multi-window view that allows users to adjust the size and position of windows. Thanks to the Ark graphics engine, HarmonyOS 5 delivers smooth visual effects across the system, from dynamic wallpapers to multi-window operations.

Huawei places a strong emphasis on security with HarmonyOS 5. The system leverages the new Star Shield architecture to ensure robust user privacy protection. Rigorous security checks are conducted before any app is released in the marketplace. Additionally, the OS supports up to 1,000 external peripherals, allowing seamless connectivity across various devices.
