Perplexity AI, a rising star in the artificial intelligence space, is working to expand its presence across major smartphone platforms. The San Francisco-based startup has already made strides with Motorola and is eyeing further integration with Samsung. Meanwhile, it is also exploring the potential to introduce its assistant on Apple’s iOS. As users increasingly seek more intuitive and capable AI tools, Perplexity is positioning itself as a smarter alternative to existing assistants.
Samsung: A Strategic Gateway to Global Reach
Perplexity’s talks with Samsung hint at a strategic push to boost its global footprint. The company has already secured a partnership with Motorola, which plans to pre-install the Perplexity assistant on select models, offering it as an alternative to Google’s Gemini. Now, with Samsung holding nearly 20% of global smartphone market share, integration on their devices could significantly scale Perplexity’s user base.
Several approaches are under discussion, including making Perplexity a default AI assistant, preloading it on devices, or highlighting it within the Galaxy Store. These moves, if realised, would give the assistant direct exposure to millions of users. Nevertheless, Samsung’s close ties with Google could complicate negotiations. However, the fact that Samsung’s investment division has already backed Perplexity signals potential openness to deeper collaboration.
Apple Integration: Aiming to Fill Siri’s Gaps
Perplexity is also eyeing iPhones, hoping to address the shortcomings of Siri with a more capable assistant. CEO Aravind Srinivas has hinted at developing a Siri-like voice assistant for iOS, and even sought public feedback online.
While Perplexity already has a presence on Android, an iOS version could allow it to compete head-to-head with Siri. Many iPhone users, frustrated by Siri’s performance, may welcome a fresh option that delivers more accurate, task-focused responses. Additionally, if Apple delays improvements until iOS 18, the timing could favour Perplexity. Expansion into iOS would not only enhance visibility but also offer more user data to further train and refine its AI models.
