Hamdan highlights UAE’s Commitment to Tech-driven Future

Sheikh Hamdan visits Google's Dubai office to discuss AI innovation.

On Monday, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to becoming a global hub for future technology. During his visit to Google’s offices at the Dubai Innovation Hub, he emphasised the country’s strategic focus on digital transformation. This visit demonstrated the strong synergy between the UAE and Google, which has had a presence in Dubai since 2008. Notably, Google’s Dubai office remains the largest in the MENA region.

While there, Sheikh Hamdan explored how Google contributes to AI advancement. He was introduced to tools like Gemini, a personal AI assistant, and NotebookLM, an AI-driven application for research and writing. Both innovations reflect Google’s growing role in shaping the digital landscape. Moreover, the visit included a preview of the Google Economic Impact Report 2024, the first of its kind released for the UAE. The report detailed the positive contributions of Google services; Search, YouTube, Maps, Cloud, and Ads to the national economy.

Supporting Innovation and Inclusion in the UAE

Importantly, the Crown Prince learned about the Google Accessibility Discovery Center in Dubai, which opened in September 2024. This centre, one of only seven worldwide, is the first in the MENA region. It reflects Google’s broader efforts to make technology accessible to all.

Throughout the visit, Google executives reiterated their support for the UAE’s digital goals. Through initiatives such as the ‘Grow with Google’ programme, the company has already trained 420,000 individuals in AI applications and digital business skills. This effort contributes directly to national talent development and business growth.

Sheikh Hamdan commended Google’s ongoing investment in the UAE’s future. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between government and private sector leaders in driving innovation and achieving ambitious national targets.

Driving the Dubai Economic Agenda D33

Dubai’s vision for technological leadership is deeply embedded in the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. This initiative aims to generate Dh100 billion annually from digital transformation alone. AI development and integration remain central to this agenda. By prioritising future-ready strategies and fostering global partnerships, Dubai is positioning itself as a capital of the digital economy. Sheikh Hamdan concluded by reaffirming the city’s dedication to creating a thriving ecosystem that supports innovation and drives lasting economic value.
