Guide to sustainable living in UAE: embrace a greener lifestyle

The Year of Sustainability team in the UAE has recently released a comprehensive guide that aims to encourage the public to adopt more sustainable habits in their everyday lives. This guide is available to access on the UAE Year of Sustainability’s website and is designed to provide practical advice, expert insights and helpful information that can inspire collective action towards sustainability.

The guide was developed with the input of a selection of members from the Sustainability Experts Network, which is made up of UAE-based experts with a deep understanding of the country’s sustainability agenda. It aims to address sustainability in various fields, including responsible consumption, resource conservation, and climate change.

The first edition of the guide, focusing on responsible consumption, offers expert-backed recommendations by Habiba Al Marashi, Sultan Al Junaibi, Ali Alshimmari, and Nour Almehairi on how to approach sustainability from a multi-faceted perspective. The guide offers insights on how to promote food portioning, switch to slow fashion, adopt a more plant-based diet, and reduce red meat consumption.

According to Rauda Al Falasi, Strategic Storytelling Manager of the Year of Sustainability, the guide is designed to encourage sustainable practices by looking at the financial, economic, and health benefits of adopting such practices. Nour AlMheiri, a member of the Sustainability Experts Network, added that the guide is a much-needed resource that is informative, educational, and designed specifically with the needs of UAE residents in mind.

Looking ahead, the upcoming editions of the guide will target behaviors addressing the conservation of resources and climate change. The guide is part of the UAE’s efforts to empower its residents to make informed choices and carry forward the country’s legacy of sustainability that its ancestors practiced by consuming resources more responsibly.
