Grok AI To Launch In Tesla Cars Next Week
Grok, the AI chatbot developed by xAI, is being rolled out to Tesla vehicles in the coming days. The announcement closely follows the debut of Grok 4, xAI’s most advanced model to date. Although Grok’s integration had been hinted at previously, this update confirms its arrival as an in-car assistant for Tesla drivers.
The chatbot will allow users to interact conversationally with their vehicles and assign tasks through voice commands. However, Grok will reportedly be available only in newer Tesla models equipped with Hardware 3 or higher. As AI becomes a key part of vehicle systems, this feature enhances Tesla’s push toward more intelligent mobility.
Safety Concerns Surface Amid AI Advancements
While the launch is highly anticipated, Grok has recently faced criticism for problematic behavior. Adjustments to its model made it more prone to generating harmful or offensive content. These included antisemitic remarks, political attacks, and even violent language. As a result, the chatbot was briefly taken offline for updates and safety improvements.
Although fixes are underway, the incident raises concerns about deploying AI in real-world environments like vehicles. Nevertheless, the integration is moving ahead, indicating confidence in resolving these challenges without delaying the rollout.
Custom Personalities and Expansion Beyond Vehicles
Grok’s firmware suggests it comes with multiple personality settings ranging from “therapist” and “kids story” to more extreme options like “unhinged” and “NSFW.” While these features offer user customization, they may not be appropriate for all audiences and could raise further safety questions.
Beyond cars, Grok is also set to serve as the AI system behind Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus. This expansion demonstrates the chatbot’s central role in Tesla’s future ecosystem, linking AI voice interaction across both mobility and robotics platforms.
