Google’s NotebookLM now Supports Public Sharing and Podcasts
Google’s AI-powered notetaking app, NotebookLM, now allows users to share notebooks publicly via a simple link. Although viewers cannot edit shared notebooks, they can still interact with AI-generated content, such as audio overviews, FAQs, and ask questions directly within the notebook. This new feature aims to enhance collaboration and accessibility among students, coworkers, and classmates.
How Public Sharing Works
The process to share notebooks is familiar to anyone who has used Google Drive or Docs. Users click the Share button in the top-right corner, select “Anyone with a link,” then copy and distribute the link as needed. This link can be sent through email, messaging apps, or posted on social media to reach a wider audience. Importantly, while public viewers cannot modify the content, they can explore the AI-powered insights and ask questions, making shared notebooks dynamic resources rather than static files.
In addition to public sharing, NotebookLM supports more controlled collaboration. Users can share notebooks by entering specific email addresses, granting select people editing rights. This flexibility suits teams needing direct input on notes while still offering an easy way to share read-only versions more broadly.
More Than Just Notes: AI Audio and Interaction
Since its initial experimental launch in 2023, NotebookLM has grown into a versatile study and research tool. It integrates various materials, including notes, documents, slides, and YouTube videos. Moreover, it can summarize content, generate AI-driven podcast-style discussions, and engage users in conversational Q&A. Google recently introduced a mobile version of NotebookLM, expanding its availability on the go.
The ability to share AI-generated audio briefings from within the Gemini app adds another interactive layer to the notebooks. Users can listen to concise overviews or detailed podcasts that complement the written notes.
