Google Launches Gemini Spark AI Agent
Google has introduced Gemini Spark, a new AI agent designed to work continuously in the background and help users manage digital tasks. The announcement came during Google I/O 2026 as part of the company’s broader expansion of agentic AI capabilities. Consequently, Gemini is evolving from a conversational assistant into a proactive digital companion.
Unlike traditional AI assistants, Gemini Spark operates on dedicated cloud infrastructure. Therefore, it can continue working even when a user’s phone or computer is offline. The service performs tasks only under user direction and requests approval before completing sensitive actions.
Always-On AI for Everyday Tasks
Gemini Spark can manage multi-step tasks such as organizing email, summarizing documents, creating spreadsheets, planning events, and tracking ongoing projects. In addition, it integrates with Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and other Google Workspace applications to automate routine workflows.
Google also plans to expand Spark’s capabilities through support for third-party applications using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). As a result, users will be able to connect the AI agent with external services while maintaining control over its actions.
Google said Gemini Spark is designed to help users “navigate your digital life” by taking action on their behalf while keeping them in control.
Part of Google’s Agentic AI Strategy
Gemini Spark joins a broader lineup of AI announcements that include Gemini 3.5 Flash, Gemini Omni, and updates across Google’s productivity tools. Furthermore, the company is positioning Spark as a key component of its next-generation AI ecosystem, where intelligent agents handle complex tasks across devices and cloud services.
Google will initially make Gemini Spark available to trusted testers before expanding access to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States. Meanwhile, the company plans to extend support across additional platforms and devices as the service matures.
As competition in agentic AI accelerates, Google aims to differentiate Gemini Spark through deep integration with its ecosystem and continuous cloud-based operation. Consequently, the company expects the platform to simplify everyday digital work while giving users greater control over AI-powered automation.
