Global Water Award: To be the Future of the World in Water Innovation

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer at the Global Water Awards

Since its launch by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award has significantly evolved, it now features innovative projects, an increased number of beneficiaries, more participating countries, and expanded award categories. With total prizes of USD 1 million, this biennial award encourages the development of innovative solutions to global water scarcity.

The UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE) supervises this award. Additionally, it has gained the attention of institutions, research centres, and innovators worldwide. The award has become a global platform for developing practical and sustainable solutions to the water crisis using renewable energy.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Suqia UAE, emphasized, “Thanks to the unlimited support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the award plays a significant role in supporting the UAE’s efforts to address global challenges and help less developed communities achieve sustainable development.”

Suqia UAE, under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives works to reduce the suffering of less fortunate communities. Since its establishment in 2015, Suqia UAE’s projects have benefited 14.9 million people globally.

The 4th cycle of the award has attracted significant attention. Over the past three cycles, the organizers recognized 31 winners from 22 countries for their innovative water desalination and purification projects using renewable energy sources. The third cycle alone honoured 11 winners from 8 countries.

In 2020, Suqia UAE expanded the award to include new technologies for producing, distributing, storing, monitoring, desalinating, and purifying water using renewable energy. A new category, the ‘Innovative Crisis Solutions Award,’ was also added. Additionally, the award comprises four main categories, each with multiple subcategories and significant prizes.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award continues to inspire and support innovative solutions to global water scarcity. Expanding its categories and reaching more participants, the award also drives sustainable progress and innovation in water management.
