Nigeria has emerged as a leader in Africa’s digital economy, supported by government initiatives, global enterprises, and a thriving startup ecosystem. With an ambitious goal of building a US$1 trillion economy by 2030, the nation is investing in talent development and digital infrastructure to drive sustainable growth.
Perfectly aligned with this ambition is the inaugural edition of GITEX NIGERIA, which will unite global and local decision makers. The event will not only focus on technology but also showcase how digital transformation impacts multiple sectors. Scheduled from 1–4 September 2025, it will run under the patronage of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, with strong support from the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, NITDA, and the Lagos State Government.
The opening day in Abuja will feature a Government Leadership & AI Summit, designed to align international leaders on the future of digital infrastructure, AI, and innovation. Hon. Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, emphasized the opportunity to transform Nigeria from a passive consumer of AI into a global producer of talent and solutions.
Lagos Hosts Tech Expo and Startup Festival
The event then transitions to Lagos from 3–4 September across two major venues. The Eko Hotel Convention Centre will host the GITEX NIGERIA Tech Expo & Future Economy Conference, while the Landmark Centre will welcome the GITEX NIGERIA Startup Festival. Together, they will form West Africa’s largest gathering of technology leaders, startups, and investors.
H.E. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, highlighted the city’s central role in Africa’s digital future. Meanwhile, Mr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General of NITDA, underscored that the event will act as a cornerstone for Africa’s digital renaissance by promoting scalable and globally competitive AI infrastructure.
Global tech giants are also strengthening their presence in Nigeria. Companies such as IBM, operated by MIBB, are deepening local engagement through ecosystem-driven growth in banking, telecoms, government, and education. Vishnu Taimni, General Manager of IBM operated by MIBB, reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to co-creating technologies that empower industries and communities.
Africa’s Innovation Hub Attracts Global Investors
Lagos, already home to 23 of Nigeria’s 28 fastest-growing companies, will also host the country’s largest investor programme during the GITEX NIGERIA Startup Festival. This initiative will connect startups, investors, corporates, and international partners, strengthening Nigeria’s reputation as Africa’s innovation hub.
To support this ecosystem, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will present its pan-African timbuktoo initiative. By mobilizing both public and private capital, timbuktoo aims to empower startups addressing global challenges.
GITEX NIGERIA 2025 is backed by international and local partners, including AWS, Cisco, IFC, Kaspersky, the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, and Space42. With this strong collaboration, the event will act as a catalyst for digital growth across Africa, while positioning Nigeria at the heart of global innovation.
