Expo City Dubai has announced plans to finance environmental initiatives aimed at combating climate change

Expo Live, a project initiated as a part of Expo 2020 Dubai’s legacy program, has launched a call for startups that have concrete solutions to combat the global climate crisis and global warming. The chosen start-ups will be rewarded with a Dh500,000 grant for their work in areas such as reforestation, reduction of greenhouse gases, or improving agricultural productivity. The selected innovators will also have an opportunity to showcase their work at Cop28, which is scheduled to be held at Expo City Dubai at the end of this year.

Expo Live has received 430 applications from all over the world since its launch earlier this month. The initiative aims to highlight and support projects that focus on climate-related solutions, especially in the year of sustainability, and when Expo City Dubai is going to host Cop28 in November. By providing a platform for innovators to exhibit their projects during the two weeks of Cop28, they can be given the right exposure to participate in discussions and connect with others.

Entrepreneurs who wish to participate in Expo Live’s Innovation Programme must have a registered company and their solution should either be in the market or near launch. In addition, they must demonstrate how their solution can have a positive impact on the environment, contribute to food security, or adapt to the energy transition.

The number of innovators that will be selected is yet to be determined and will depend on the quality of applications received. The programme aims to give preference to candidates with projects that can improve the lives of marginalized communities dealing with drought or floods.
