Etihad Rail has unveiled full details of the UAE’s national passenger railway network, marking a significant step in the country’s transport and infrastructure development. The project establishes the UAE’s first fully integrated passenger rail system and reinforces efforts to create safer, faster, and more connected mobility across the Emirates.
National Network Connecting Eleven Cities
The passenger rail network will link 11 cities and regions through strategically placed stations across the country. Earlier announcements confirmed stations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah. Now, additional stations are planned in Al Sila’, Al Dhannah, Al Mirfa, Madinat Zayed, Mezaira’a, Al Faya, and Al Dhaid. Together, these locations will become operational in phases while ensuring nationwide reach. As a result, the network will significantly improve inter-emirate connectivity and offer a reliable alternative to road travel.
Passenger Experience and Operational Readiness
The trains have been designed to deliver a modern and comfortable journey. Accordingly, features include ergonomic seating, contemporary interiors, full Wi-Fi access, and individual power outlets. Services will also follow precise schedules, which helps ensure consistent and congestion-free travel. In addition, each train can carry up to 400 passengers, while advanced operating systems will support safety, reliability, and security. The network will also integrate smoothly with other transport modes, improving first- and last-mile connectivity.
Wider Economic and Social Impact
Beyond transport efficiency, the passenger railway is expected to generate broader national benefits. Therefore, it will support domestic tourism, reduce road congestion, and contribute to lower emissions. Moreover, by improving access between cities and regions, the network will strengthen social and economic ties across the Emirates. Ultimately, this project positions passenger rail as a cornerstone of the UAE’s long-term vision for sustainable, people-focused mobility.
