ENEC and Hyundai E&C executives sign MoU

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Seoul, Republic of Korea, to jointly explore international nuclear energy opportunities. This agreement comes amid rising global momentum for nuclear power as countries seek clean, secure, and scalable energy solutions to meet growing electricity demand.

Strengthening UAE-Korea Nuclear Partnership

This collaboration builds on the longstanding nuclear partnership between the UAE and South Korea, reflecting both nations’ commitment to peaceful nuclear energy development. The MoU establishes a framework for knowledge exchange, evaluation of global nuclear project opportunities, and potential strategic investments. It also includes forming a joint working group to identify areas of mutual interest and drive forward nuclear energy initiatives.

Supporting Global Nuclear Expansion

ENEC is entering a new phase focused on international cooperation in both large-scale reactors and advanced nuclear technologies. With the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant fully operational, ENEC aims to leverage its expertise to support global nuclear deployment. Hyundai E&C, the lead contractor of the Barakah project, brings proven nuclear construction experience and remains a key strategic partner.

Driving Clean Energy for a Digital Future

As electricity demand surges due to AI, data centers, and industrial electrification, nuclear energy is gaining recognition as a reliable, low-carbon baseload solution. The MoU reinforces ENEC’s growing role in international nuclear development and reflects a broader global shift toward nuclear investment. According to the IEA and IAEA, nuclear capacity must grow significantly by 2030 and 2050 to ensure energy security and sustainability. The UAE’s experience with Barakah offers a proven model for rapid, safe, and cost-effective nuclear deployment worldwide.
