Elon Musk has announced that Twitter will be removing inactive accounts

Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced on Monday that the company will be removing inactive accounts from its platform. Musk also mentioned that Twitter users may see a drop in their follower count as a result. Twitter’s policy states that users must log in to their account at least once every 30 days to avoid permanent removal due to prolonged inactivity.

This announcement comes after Twitter removed the legacy verified blue tick from the profiles of thousands of people, including celebrities, journalists, and prominent politicians, last month. Musk has also been vocal about account verification on Twitter and has made it a part of Twitter’s Blue subscription. He believes this move will help tackle the issue of bot accounts on the platform.

Earlier this month, Musk made headlines when he “threatened” to reassign National Public Radio’s Twitter account to another company. The public broadcaster had stopped posting content to its 52 official Twitter feeds in protest against a Twitter label that implied government involvement in its editorial content. With Musk’s latest announcement, it remains to be seen how many inactive accounts will be removed from Twitter and how it will impact users’ follower counts.
