EDGE and Indra Group have moved forward with plans to establish a new defence manufacturing company in Spain. The initiative will focus on the development, production, and lifecycle support of loitering munitions and smart weapons.
Moreover, the venture is designed to serve Spanish and wider European defence programmes, while retaining flexibility to expand into additional defence capabilities as requirements evolve.
Local Production and Industrial Investment
Subject to board approvals from both companies, the new entity will operate as a dedicated manufacturing organisation based in Spain. In parallel, the company will draw on EDGE’s expertise in loitering munitions and smart weapons to support assembly, manufacturing, and lifecycle services.
Additionally, loitering munition systems will be produced in the province of León at a new drone manufacturing facility developed by Indra. This facility will involve an estimated investment of between EUR 15 million and EUR 20 million.
Strengthening European Defence Sovereignty
As a result, advanced defence systems will be produced in-country and aligned with European sovereignty requirements. Furthermore, the manufacturing model is intended to ensure scalability to meet rising demand across the European defence market. Overall, the initiative reflects a shared commitment by EDGE and Indra to build sovereign, export-ready industrial capabilities in Europe by combining advanced weapons technology with established regional manufacturing and programme execution capacity.
