Dubai’s digital transformation has been fueled by partnerships, says Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed

H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE held a meeting at the Ruler’s Court in Dubai with Charles Meyers, President and CEO of Equinix, a renowned global digital infrastructure company.

During the meeting, Sheikh Maktoum emphasized Dubai’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with major global technology companies. These collaborations play a crucial role in driving Dubai’s digital transformation journey and its emergence as a prominent global technology hub. He highlighted that the city’s digital transformation plan aims to enhance sustainable development and improve service delivery to the community. This initiative also aligns with Dubai’s strategic objective of becoming one of the world’s leading urban economies.

Equinix, founded in Silicon Valley in 1998, is a leading digital infrastructure company with 198 data centres in 37 countries, serving diverse sectors such as public, financial, industrial, healthcare, retail, education, and transportation. The company’s revenues reached $7.263 billion in 2022, with Q1 2023 revenues amounting to $2 billion. Equinix’s DX1 Dubai Data Centre, spanning 41,000 square feet, is one of their significant data centre facilities located in Dubai Production City.

The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials including Abdullah Al Basti, Secretary General of The Executive Council of Dubai; Helal Al Marri, Director General of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism; Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General of Digital Dubai, and Malek Al Malek, Director General of the Dubai Development Authority.
