Dubai RTA Tightens School Bus Safety Ahead

RTA officer inspecting Dubai school bus safety

With the new academic year one week away, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority urged school bus operators to be fully prepared. Moreover, operators must comply strictly with health and safety requirements to ensure a secure learning environment. Therefore, operators and school administrations should maintain safety and comfort for students, supervisors, and drivers. RTA monitors schools and operators closely and continuously to verify compliance.

Safety requirements and operator duties

First, operators must instruct drivers to obey traffic regulations, especially around schools. Also, drivers must avoid obstructing traffic to reduce congestion and keep roads flowing. Operators must provide intensive training programmes for drivers and bus attendants under RTA supervision. Furthermore, training focuses on safe, professional handling of students.

Operators must equip buses with essential safety features and measures. Additionally, operators should maintain regular communication with parents to reassure them about daily commutes. Drivers must use safe driving practices to protect students during journeys. Bus attendants must escort students to the nearest safe point when dropping them off. Meanwhile, students must follow attendants’ instructions when boarding and alighting.

Accident-Free Day incentive

The Ministry of Interior designated August 25, 2025, as a Day Without Accidents to mark the new term. Consequently, motorists can pledge online to follow traffic laws on that date. If motorists register and record no violations on August 25, four black points will be deducted from their licences. Moreover, the deduction will occur electronically by September 15, 2025, avoiding visits to service centres. Since the announcement, many motorists have signed up for the pledge as a reminder to drive more carefully.
