Dubai Police have warned residents about fraudsters exploiting recent events to steal personal data. Specifically, scammers are impersonating employees from the ‘Dubai Crisis Management’ department and falsely claiming links to Dubai Police. As a result, they attempt to gain the trust of unsuspecting individuals.
These scams seek to unlawfully obtain sensitive information, including UAE Pass credentials and Emirates ID details. Once criminals secure such data, they can carry out SIM swap operations. Consequently, they may access victims’ bank accounts through mobile banking applications.
Authorities Clarify Official Procedures
Dubai Police emphasize that they do not request confidential information or verification codes via telephone calls or text messages under any circumstances. Therefore, any such request should immediately raise suspicion.
In addition, authorities advise residents not to share personal or banking information with unverified parties. If anyone suspects fraudulent activity, they should report it immediately through official channels by calling 901 or using the eCrime platform, a dedicated service for cybercrime reports.
Public Urged to Remain Vigilant
Meanwhile, the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) issued an important notice regarding the use of UAE Pass. Official entities will never ask users to log in to their accounts or share confidential information. Thus, residents should treat such requests as clear warning signs.
Fraudsters may also attempt to trick victims into requesting SIM replacement services, issuing new SIM cards, or completing procedures that require facial verification through biometric authentication services. However, authorities strongly urge the public to remain vigilant and protect their UAE Pass at all times.
Ultimately, safeguarding personal and banking information remains critical to preventing fraud. By staying alert and following these precautions, residents can reduce their risk and ensure the security of their personal and financial data.
