Dubai to Install Over 250 EV Charging Stations in 2025

Dubai to install over 250 new EV charging stations in 2025 to support green mobility.

Dubai is set to expand its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure with the installation of over 250 new charging stations in 2025. Parkin Company PJSC (Parkin), Dubai’s largest provider of paid public parking facilities, has announced an enhanced partnership with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to facilitate this expansion. As part of the initiative’s first phase, DEWA will roll out the new charging stations during the first quarter of 2025, reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to sustainable mobility and green energy adoption.

Enhancing EV Infrastructure Across Dubai

The upcoming charging stations will be equipped with alternating current (AC) technology, offering a capacity of 22 kilowatts per charging point. Each station will be designed to serve two parking spaces, ensuring optimal usage of resources while expanding access to EV charging facilities. The initiative specifically targets high-density residential communities where existing access to EV charging infrastructure is either limited or unavailable.

Strategic locations in zones A and C have been identified to accommodate the new charging stations. These areas, selected based on urban density and vehicle usage patterns, will help bridge the gap for residents who may not have convenient access to private EV chargers. With the increasing adoption of electric vehicles across the Emirate, this expansion aligns with Dubai’s vision to enhance green mobility solutions and reduce the transportation sector’s carbon footprint.

The collaboration between Parkin and DEWA extends beyond infrastructure development. It is designed to offer an improved user experience by streamlining payment processes for EV owners. Customers will have the convenience of paying both the EV charging tariff and parking fee through Parkin’s digital platform, integrating transactions into a single seamless payment via the app and linked digital wallet.

Supporting Dubai’s Green Mobility Strategy

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, emphasized the initiative’s alignment with Dubai’s sustainability goals. He stated, “We continue to strengthen green mobility by encouraging the use of eco-friendly electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions from the transport sector. This aligns with the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030 and the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which aim to make Dubai the city offering the best living experience.”

Dubai has been actively promoting electric vehicle adoption through initiatives such as the EV Green Charger program, which was introduced by DEWA in 2014. The program has played a crucial role in establishing a robust charging infrastructure, ensuring that EV owners have access to convenient and efficient charging solutions across the city. With over 740 charging points currently in operation, DEWA aims to increase this number to 1,000 by the end of 2025.

Al Tayer further highlighted the significance of the collaboration with Parkin in advancing Dubai’s commitment to sustainability. He noted that the partnership will accelerate the development of EV infrastructure, integrating state-of-the-art technology to provide a seamless charging experience. This initiative, he added, reinforces Dubai’s status as a global leader in innovation, sustainability, and investment opportunities.

Parkin’s Role in Enabling the EV Transition

Eng. Mohamed Al Ali, CEO of Parkin, reiterated the company’s commitment to enhancing Dubai’s urban mobility landscape. “As the clear market leader in parking operations, management, and technology in Dubai, Parkin has a critical role in enabling the transition to EV throughout the Emirate,” he said. “The installation of green chargers in key locations will enhance our world-class facilities, unlock new opportunities for growth, and incentivize EV adoption.”

With Dubai’s rapid urban expansion and increasing focus on smart mobility solutions, Parkin has positioned itself as a key player in the sustainable transportation ecosystem. By leveraging its extensive network of parking facilities, the company is facilitating the integration of electric vehicle infrastructure into Dubai’s urban environment.

The new charging stations are expected to improve the overall operational efficiency of Parkin’s parking spaces, optimizing utilization rates and contributing to increased revenue potential. Additionally, the expansion of the EV charging network is anticipated to boost consumer confidence in electric mobility, encouraging more residents to make the switch from traditional fuel-powered vehicles to eco-friendly alternatives.

A Step Towards a Sustainable Future

Dubai’s push for electric vehicle infrastructure development is a reflection of its broader sustainability agenda. The UAE has set ambitious climate goals, with initiatives such as the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy aiming to reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable energy adoption. The transport sector, which is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, is a key focus area for policymakers seeking to implement greener alternatives.

The installation of new charging stations in partnership with Parkin is part of DEWA’s larger efforts to create a comprehensive EV ecosystem that supports the needs of electric vehicle users. By continuously expanding charging infrastructure, Dubai is laying the foundation for a cleaner, more efficient transportation network.

Looking ahead, the Emirate’s strategic vision includes further advancements in smart mobility, such as the integration of artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and digital payment solutions into EV charging networks. These developments will enhance user experience, making electric vehicle ownership more practical and accessible.

With the demand for electric vehicles on the rise, Dubai’s proactive approach ensures that necessary infrastructure is in place to accommodate future growth. The collaboration between DEWA and Parkin exemplifies the city’s commitment to innovation-driven sustainability, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global leader in green mobility and smart urban development.

As the first phase of the initiative rolls out in early 2025, residents and visitors can look forward to a more convenient, efficient, and environmentally friendly way to charge their electric vehicles—further solidifying Dubai’s role as a pioneer in sustainable urban transformation.
