Dubai International Airport (DXB) is undergoing a significant security upgrade with the installation of advanced screening technology. Smiths Detection has been awarded a major contract to deploy cutting-edge HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX Model-S computed tomography scanners across all terminals. This move is part of Dubai’s broader strategy to transform its airports into smart, secure hubs.
Advanced Screening Technology to Improve Efficiency and Safety
The new HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX scanners offer high-resolution 3D imaging, allowing for quicker and more efficient screening. Passengers can now keep their electronics and liquids in their bags during security checks, significantly reducing processing time and improving overall convenience. These systems, certified by international regulatory bodies like TSA and ECAC, also feature iCMORE automatic object recognition software, making them highly effective in detecting potential threats.
The installation of these scanners will take place across DXB’s Terminals 1, 2, and 3. With this upgrade, Dubai aims to maintain its reputation as a global leader in aviation by prioritizing security while improving passenger flow and operational efficiency. The initiative was officially announced during the 2025 Airport Show, reflecting Dubai’s vision for a seamless, future-ready airport infrastructure.
Dubai’s Commitment to Smart Airport Infrastructure
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, emphasized that the project reinforces Dubai’s commitment to aviation excellence. “This project strengthens passenger safety, enhances the travel experience, and reinforces Dubai’s reputation as a global aviation hub,” he stated. Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, added that the project reflects their commitment to integrating smart infrastructure across airports.
The collaboration with Smiths Detection underscores Dubai’s investment in both security and operational efficiency, providing a safer and more streamlined experience for millions of travelers. Tom Squier, Managing Director of Smiths Detection Middle East, expressed his honor in partnering with Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, stating that the advanced screening technology would enhance detection efficiency and support the city’s vision for safe, smart air travel.
This project marks a significant step toward Dubai’s goal of creating the airports of the future, where technology and innovation work hand-in-hand to improve passenger safety and streamline the travel process.
