After Elon Musk purchased Twitter, most people predicted that the former US President would return to the microblogging platform. But, Trump said he doesn’t want to and wants to be on Truth Social instead. Since the anticipations stirred the internet, the Truth app received a crazy good response.
So much so that Trump’s Truth Social app is topping the App Store chart in the US, beating Twitter and TikTok. Highlighting it, Musk said, “Truth Social is currently beating Twitter & TikTok on the Apple Store.”
The Truth Social is not available in India. The app has only been released in the US for Apple users.
The former US president said that he will not join Twitter back even if the microblogging site reinstates his account. Trump instead wants to be a part of the Truth Social app, an alternative to Twitter, developed by his team. He is expected to formally join Truth Social in a few days.
“I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on Truth,” Trump told Fox News. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on Truth,” the former US President told Fox News.
After a close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically, how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” the company noted in an official blog post.
With Musk, who endorses free speech, taking over Twitter, it is assumed that most accounts blocked for putting personal opinions will be unblocked. Donald Trump’s account is one of them.
Musk has always talked about Twitter not adhering to the basic principle of free speech. Finally explaining what he means by free speech, Musk in one of his latest tweets said, “By “free speech”, I simply mean that which matches the law. I am against censorship that goes far beyond the law.”
“If people want less free speech, they will ask the government to pass laws to that effect. Therefore, going beyond the law is contrary to the will of the people,” he noted.
