Diriyah Company has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Helicopter Company (THC) to explore urban air mobility (UAM) solutions for the Diriyah project. This collaboration marks a significant step toward integrating advanced air transport into one of Saudi Arabia’s most ambitious cultural and tourism developments.
The partnership supports Diriyah’s goal of becoming a global destination, aiming to attract 50 million visitors annually by 2030. It also aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, contributing to national objectives to diversify the economy and modernize infrastructure through sustainable, technology-driven innovation.
By exploring air mobility services, Diriyah aims to enhance visitor experience, reduce ground traffic congestion, and support “smart city” development principles. This integration could lead to a new era of intra-city transport, offering faster, more efficient travel options for both residents and tourists.
Laying the Foundation for Air Mobility
The MoU includes a broad scope of collaboration, including strategic planning and integration of urban air mobility solutions. The initiative emphasizes the importance of regulatory alignment and sustainability, ensuring that any developments are both innovative and compliant with national frameworks.
Diriyah Company will benefit from THC’s expertise as it establishes the operational, technical, and infrastructural foundations necessary for successful UAM implementation. Moreover, the agreement underscores the importance of collaboration across the ecosystem—bringing in air transport operators, infrastructure developers, and technology providers.
In addition to infrastructure development, environmental and social sustainability are prioritized, ensuring that new transport options align with Saudi Arabia’s green initiatives. These efforts aim to enhance the overall quality of life while supporting economic and technological advancement.
Driving Innovation and Tourism Growth
To initiate this effort, Diriyah and THC will form a joint working group to evaluate the impact and feasibility of deploying UAM services. Through this process, both parties will identify scalable, future-ready solutions that could eventually redefine urban travel across Saudi Arabia.
If successfully implemented, urban air mobility in Diriyah will not only transform mobility but also contribute significantly to the growth of tourism and smart city infrastructure. This partnership reaffirms Diriyah’s role as a forward-thinking development at the heart of the Kingdom’s transformation and its vision for a sustainable, connected future.
