A new initiative has been launched to train and empower 10,000 teachers in Kurdistan with modern digital skills. The effort, carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Education of the Kurdistan Regional Government and Arizona State University, aims to equip educators with advanced digital teaching methods.

Building on the success of an earlier phase that trained 2,400 teachers, this expansion reflects a strong commitment to enhancing education quality and fostering innovation. The program seeks to prepare the region’s schools for a technology-driven future while enabling teachers to integrate creative and critical thinking into classrooms.

His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama highlighted that improving digital skills among teachers remains a central goal of the initiative. He explained that the program allows educators to effectively merge technology with interactive learning, ultimately strengthening the region’s educational leadership.

Promoting Lifelong Learning and Innovation

His Excellency Alan Hama Salih, Minister of Education of the Kurdistan Regional Government, praised the initiative for breaking geographical, temporal, and language barriers. He noted that the flexible and interactive environment encourages continuous self-learning and development of digital competencies. Moreover, the program supports teachers in keeping pace with educational innovations that are rapidly transforming the learning landscape.

Implemented under the Global Academy for Digital Teachers, the initiative promotes modern teaching techniques and the development of multilingual digital resources. Training is offered in Kurdish, Arabic, and English, with participants earning internationally accredited certificates from Arizona State University. In addition, incentive packages will be awarded to exceptional educators to motivate professional excellence and sustain engagement.

Building a Global Model for Digital Learning

The Global Academy for Digital Teachers delivers training in seven languages – Arabic, English, French, Kurdish, Portuguese, Spanish, and Indonesian. This multilingual approach allows the program to reach educators around the world and expand opportunities for professional growth.

Since its establishment in November 2020, the Digital School has reached over 750,000 students and trained more than 23,000 digital teachers. Through blended and remote learning, it continues to support underprivileged communities, refugees, and displaced learners across the globe. The initiative’s focus on digital transformation and quality education ensures that educators everywhere are better prepared to teach in an increasingly connected world.
