- Malware trends shift quickly
The SecureList IT Threat Evolution report for Q2 of 2022 demonstrates the ongoing evolution of malware-for-hire. It emphasizes that organized groups increasingly create cross-platform malware to infiltrate as many systems on a target network as feasible.
This paper also covers Windows logging tool vulnerabilities, which have recently experienced a significant revival (most famously in the Log4J scandal that saw organizations scrambling to patch various applications).
- Google continues to squash potentially harmful sites
According to Google’s Transparency Report, as of August 7, 2022, 3.849 million browser warnings were sent to people trying to access websites classified as harmful by Safe Browsing. In addition, 1.6 million people noticed cautionary messages in the search results that suggested the website they were going to visit might be hazardous.
Looking at the broader, more comprehensive statistics, we can see that there have been far fewer warnings during the past ten years. It needs to be clarified that this is because there are less risky websites available; instead, Google has improved its ability to spot them and remove them from results, leading to a decrease in overall warnings.
- Black Holes are Portals to Another Reality, According to a New Theory
A new theory suggests that the science fiction idea that black holes are doors to other universes may be accurate. Nikodem Poplawski, a physicist at Indiana University, provides new mathematical models of the spiraling motion of matter falling into a black hole in research published in Physics Letters B. According to the simulations, black holes could serve as wormhole-like portals to other universes.
Einstein’s equations for general relativity predict that the singularities formed at the center of a black hole are infinitely dense yet have no physical dimensions.
In contrast, Poplawski’s hypothesis contends that the stuff black holes ingest and appear to annihilate is ejected and serves as the foundation for galaxies, stars, and planets in a parallel universe.
- About 350,000 new viruses and malicious programs emerge daily.
Today’s tech-related content isn’t all sunshine and daisies.
According to the AV-TEST Institute, 350,000 malware, unwanted programs, and viruses are found daily. The sum exceeded 1.19 billion in 2021.
The truth is that nowadays, making a virus is simple enough. Is that terrible news? Antivirus software may take months to find and eliminate them.
Unbelievable computing fact: According to statistics, 70% of hackers have contracts with businesses to create viruses.
- Google hires goats
This is more of an interesting tidbit about what a technical company utilizes than one of the amusing things about technology.
Google and the goat-herding business California Grazing agreed to a deal in 2009 as part of an endeavour to lower carbon emissions. Since then, 200 goats have been munching the grass and bushes outside the Mountain View offices yearly.
It turns out to be significantly more environmentally friendly yet no more expensive than hiring lawnmowers.
