DEWA reaches out to people on the World Environment Day

DEWA organizes awareness campaign

In conjunction with World Environment Day 2024, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organized an awareness campaign and several internal and external competitions and activities. This year’s World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5, is themed ‘GenerationRestoration.’ The activities aimed to encourage everyone to make a positive environmental impact by using solar energy, planting more trees, and reducing plastic waste through reuse and recycling. DEWA promoted the adoption of responsible and sustainable lifestyles and nature-based solutions to combat climate change.

DEWA conducted awareness sessions in partnership with the Community Development Authority. They informed senior citizens at the Thukher Social Club about DEWA’s sustainability efforts, advanced digital technologies, and green practices aimed at preserving natural resources and fostering a green economy. Simple tips were also shared to encourage sustainable practices in daily life.

Furthermore, DEWA, in collaboration with the Emirates Down Syndrome Association, organized interactive activities and workshops. These stressed the importance of engaging all members of society in sustainable development efforts, benefiting both people and the environment. DEWA also distributed ‘Zayed Ghafah’ seeds to raise awareness about preserving the local environment and celebrating the rich Emirati environmental heritage. This initiative aims to showcase local wildlife and demonstrate methods to protect it. This particularly highlights the importance of the ghaf tree. The ghaf tree offers numerous environmental benefits, such as carbon absorption, which helps mitigate climate change.

DEWA also launched an awareness competition through its official social media channels. This competition showcased its sustainability projects and encouraged public participation in building a more sustainable future. DEWA has urged customers to use its smart app, which provides access to the “Consumption Data” dashboard. This feature allows users to monitor their consumption and obtain annual, monthly, and daily consumption reports. The app also offers personalized tips to help enhance consumption efficiency.
