Chrome Introduces AI-Generated Reviews to Enhance Online Shopping Experience

Google Chrome displays online store review summary

Google has introduced a new feature in its Chrome browser that uses artificial intelligence to generate reviews of online stores. This aims to make shopping not only easier but also more secure. For now, the feature is available only on desktop versions and supports English-language content.

When users click the icon located just to the left of the browser’s web address, a pop-up appears. This displays a summary of the store’s reputation, including product quality, pricing, customer service, and return policy. Because the reviews are AI-generated, they’re based on scanned feedback from trusted sources like Reputation.com, Reseller Ratings, ScamAdviser, and Trustpilot.

Although this tool is currently limited to U.S. shoppers, it shows Google’s ongoing interest in enhancing the online shopping experience. While no mobile version has been confirmed, the company may expand support if demand grows.

Strengthening Buyer Confidence with AI Summaries

Since online shopping often lacks personal interaction, trust becomes essential. Therefore, AI reviews can offer fast, consolidated insights without requiring users to dig through dozens of individual posts. These summaries might help shoppers decide more confidently, especially when purchasing from lesser-known retailers.

We reached out to Google regarding mobile availability, but the company declined to confirm future plans. TechCrunch also asked a similar question and received no clear response. Despite this, the current rollout signals Google’s larger push to integrate AI into shopping-related features.

Competing in the AI Shopping Space

With this update, Google is making moves that may help it better compete with platforms like Amazon. The e-commerce giant already uses AI to summarize product reviews. In recent months, Google has rolled out other AI tools too. These include virtual try-on features for clothes and makeup, along with tech that provides personalized shopping suggestions and more efficient price tracking.

As AI becomes more central to retail, features like Chrome’s review summaries could soon become standard. For now, desktop users in the U.S. will get the first taste of this intelligent browsing experience.
