OpenAI revealed to Axios that ChatGPT users send about 2.5 billion prompts every day worldwide. Notably, roughly 330 million of these prompts come from users in the United States. This rapid increase highlights how widespread ChatGPT has become in a short time.
Comparing ChatGPT with Google Search Volume
While Google’s parent company, Alphabet, does not share daily search figures, it recently reported receiving 5 trillion queries annually. This breaks down to just under 14 billion searches per day on average. Independent experts like Neil Patel estimate Google’s daily searches at around 13.7 billion. Meanwhile, marketing firms SparkToro and Datos place the number closer to 16.4 billion daily searches.
ChatGPT’s Remarkable Growth Trajectory
Despite Google’s massive search volume, ChatGPT’s growth has been impressive. Back in December, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said ChatGPT handled over 1 billion queries daily. Since then, daily prompt volume has more than doubled in just eight months. This rapid rise signals the growing role of AI-powered tools in everyday information search and interaction.
