ChatGPT Set to Hit 700 Million Weekly Users as AI Adoption Soars

ChatGPT continues its rapid rise, with OpenAI reporting that the chatbot is on track to reach 700 million weekly active users this week. The milestone marks another leap in usage since the app hit 500 million weekly users at the end of March. According to Nick Turley, OpenAI’s VP and head of ChatGPT’s app, usage has grown fourfold over the past year.

“Every day, people and teams are learning, creating, and solving harder problems. Big week ahead. Grateful to the team for making ChatGPT more useful and delivering on our mission so everyone can benefit from AI,” he shared in a post on X.

Much of this growth follows OpenAI’s feature enhancements. In March, an upgraded image-generation tool powered by GPT-4 launched, boosting user engagement almost immediately. By early April, COO Brad Lightcap noted that over 130 million users had created more than 700 million images just days after the rollout.

User Engagement and Subscriptions on the Rise

OpenAI’s momentum isn’t just limited to active users. Business subscriptions have also surged. Last week, Lightcap confirmed that the platform had reached 5 million paying business users, up from 3 million in June. This significant rise reflects growing interest in ChatGPT’s commercial potential.

Meanwhile, user engagement remains strong. According to a recent Sensor Tower report, ChatGPT now ranks just behind Google and X in terms of monthly usage frequency. On average, users are interacting with the app on more than 12 days each month. Moreover, in the first half of 2025, daily usage averaged 16 minutes per person a clear sign of sustained user interest.

Innovation and Demand Continue to Drive Growth

With these indicators, it’s evident that ChatGPT’s upward trajectory is being fueled by a mix of product innovation and user demand. OpenAI’s efforts to enhance functionality appear to be paying off. While competition in the AI space remains fierce, ChatGPT is maintaining a leading position.

Given the current pace, OpenAI seems well-positioned to expand even further. As more people integrate the tool into their daily routines, the platform’s role in work, learning, and creativity continues to deepen.
