Global Outage Hits ChatGPT as OpenAI Addresses Service Disruption
ChatGPT, OpenAI’s renowned AI-powered chatbot, faced a global outage early Thursday morning, disrupting access for users across various regions. The Microsoft-backed company quickly acknowledged the issue, taking to the social media platform X to provide updates.
“We’re experiencing an outage right now. We have identified the issue and are working to roll out a fix. Sorry and we’ll keep you updated!” OpenAI stated in its announcement.
The outage also affected OpenAI’s newly launched Sora AI, a tool that transforms text prompts into videos. The disruption caused significant inconvenience, as ChatGPT boasts an estimated 123 million daily active users globally, having established itself as a leading generative AI application since its launch in late 2022.
Monitoring platform Downdetector confirmed the outage, noting widespread issues with ChatGPT and OpenAI’s websites. User complaints primarily revolved around login difficulties and slow responses from the platform.
As of Thursday morning, OpenAI reported progress in resolving the issue. “API, ChatGPT, and Sora traffic has largely recovered,” the company announced.
This incident follows a series of service disruptions affecting other platforms earlier in the week, including Instagram and WhatsApp.
