The UAE has quickly established itself in the field of space exploration, sending an unmanned spacecraft to Mars in 2021 and a rover to the Moon last year. The country has also lost a moon rover, named Rashid, which was carried by Japan's Hakuto-R lunar lander. Despite the setback, Dubai's ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, directed the MBRSC to begin work on a second rover, Rashid 2. Alneyadi's spacewalk has been celebrated by the UAE as a historic achievement, marking a new era of space exploration for the Arab world.

Newly released footage shows the heartbreak and disappointment of Emirati engineers and scientists at the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre when they learned that their spacecraft carrying the Rashid rover had crashed during a landing attempt on the Moon. The spacecraft, named Hakuto-R M1 and built by Japan's ispace, failed to deliver the UAE-built rover and other international payloads, and contact with the spacecraft was lost.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is planning a second attempt to land a rover on the Moon, as announced by the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. The new mission, named Rashid 2, will be developed and sent to space, following the probable crash of Japan's Hakuto-R Mission 1 spacecraft carrying the Rashid rover on Tuesday. The announcement comes after the successful deployment of the Rashid 1 rover on the lunar surface, carrying the flag of the Emirates.

The Emirates Mars Mission (EMM) has made significant and groundbreaking observations of Deimos, one of Mars' smaller moons, using all three of its science instruments during repeated flybys. The new findings have challenged the long-standing theory that Mars' moons, Phobos and Deimos, are captured asteroids, pointing instead to a planetary origin. The observations provide unprecedented insights into Deimos' composition and structure, including high-resolution images taken during the closest flybys of the moon, the first-ever observations made in the extreme and far ultraviolet, and the first well-resolved hyperspectral data of Deimos in the thermal infrared.

This week marks a major milestone for the UAE's space program as the country's engineers, scientists, and researchers prepare for some of the most historic and challenging missions attempted to date. The Rashid rover, a 10kg four-wheel robotic explorer, is scheduled for a lunar landing on April 25 aboard the Japanese Hakuto-R Mission 1 spacecraft, which has been travelling to the moon carrying the rover inside it for five months. This mission will be the first time an Arab spacecraft will have landed on another celestial body.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) have successfully launched its second nanosatellite, DEWA SAT-2, into space. The nanosatellite was launched aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA. DEWA SAT-2 was designed and developed by Emiratis at DEWA's Research and Development Centre, in collaboration with NanoAvionics in Lithuania.

UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi is currently participating in a research project aimed at enabling long-term space missions. The study, known as the Materials International Space Station Experiment (Misse), involves testing different spacecraft hardware materials that could be utilized in future long-duration space missions. The research is particularly important as space agencies are looking to send humans to the Moon and eventually to Mars.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to make history in space once again, as Emirati astronaut Sultan AlNeyadi prepares to undertake the first-ever spacewalk by an Arab astronaut on April 28. This mission will mark the UAE's debut in Extravehicular Activity (EVA) outside the International Space Station (ISS), making it the 10th country to undertake such an activity. AlNeyadi will be joined by NASA Flight Engineer Stephen Bowen, and the spacewalk is expected to last more than six hours.

The recent study conducted by Prof Hu Sen and his team at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics has provided new evidence suggesting the existence of a water reservoir beneath the surface of the Moon. The study analyzed glass bead samples collected by China's Chang'e-5 lunar lander in 2020 and found them to contain water. These glass beads, also known as impact glass, formed from the collisions of asteroids on the Moon millions of years ago.

The Hakuto-R Mission 1 lander, developed by Japanese private company ispace, has sent back its first image of the Moon from lunar orbit, carrying the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) Rashid rover. The spacecraft entered lunar orbit on March 20, 2023, after a journey of over 100 days, and will attempt to land on the Moon in late April. If successful, it would be ispace's first commercial cargo mission to the Moon, and the UAE's first lunar mission, making it the first Arab nation to achieve such a feat.
