Cadillac has officially received final approval to enter the FIA Formula One World Championship, beginning with the 2026 season. With this addition, the grid expands from ten to eleven teams, which slightly intensifies the competition. The announcement aligns with a sweeping set of regulatory changes set to take effect the same year. As a result, the motorsport landscape is expected to shift significantly.

Through a strategic partnership with TWG Motorsports, Cadillac is forming what it describes as “a distinctly American team with unique attributes,” according to an official press release. The collaboration signals a bold move for the automaker, especially as it prepares to compete at the sport’s highest level.

Leadership and Technical Goals Take Shape

Graeme Lowdon has been appointed Team Principal for the new Cadillac Formula 1 Team. With a rich history in the sport, his leadership will be critical as the team takes shape. Many are eager to see which drivers he will recruit and how he’ll steer the development process.

Though Cadillac will initially depend on some components from other suppliers, it ultimately aims to become a full works team. In pursuit of that goal, TWG GM Performance Power Units LLC has been formed, with Russ O’Blenes stepping in as its CEO. The company’s mission is to design and build Cadillac’s own chassis and power units a significant undertaking by any standard.

An Ambitious Road Ahead

Entering Formula One is no small feat. Despite having strong backing, Cadillac and TWG face a steep learning curve. Yet that challenge only adds to the intrigue. While some critics expect them to struggle or even fail, others are optimistic that the new team will bring added excitement and diversity to the grid.

Ultimately, Cadillac’s entry is about more than just racing. It represents a broader push by American manufacturers to stake a claim in a sport traditionally dominated by European teams. As the countdown to March 2026 begins, all eyes will be on how this new chapter unfolds.
