The Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) has announced the inaugural Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit (GETS), set to take place from May 5-6, 2025, at the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort in Abu Dhabi. This summit will gather over 500 regional and international experts to explore governance strategies for emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing.
Organized under the theme “Shaping Responsible Governance of AI and Emerging Technologies in a Future Digital Economy,” GETS aims to establish robust governance frameworks. It will focus on critical sectors such as finance, healthcare, manufacturing, education, and creative industries. Hosted by ATRC, with the UAE Public Prosecution as a strategic partner, the event highlights the UAE’s commitment to ethical innovation and collaborative policymaking.
Fostering Inclusive Dialogue for a Digital Future
The summit will bring together a diverse range of stakeholders, including government policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, startups, and youth representatives. Through inclusive discussions, GETS will address key challenges related to responsible innovation, regulatory policies, and ethical AI deployment.
Faisal Al Bannai, advisor to the president of the UAE for strategic research and advanced technology affairs and secretary-general of ATRC, emphasized the summit’s significance. He stated that GETS is a pivotal step toward building a safer and more inclusive future for emerging technologies. As AI and other disruptive innovations evolve, global cooperation is essential to develop governance frameworks that ensure responsible progress.
Emerging Tech Governance Summit: Strengthening Ethical Tech Governance
Chancellor Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, UAE attorney-general, underscored the importance of proactive governance. He noted that while AI, Web3, and quantum computing unlock new opportunities, strong regulatory foundations are needed to maintain justice, security, and sustainability.
He further emphasized that GETS will serve as a global platform to exchange expertise and establish international standards for ethical innovation. The UAE Public Prosecution remains committed to ensuring technology benefits humanity while upholding fairness and security.
As Abu Dhabi positions itself as a leader in technology governance, GETS 2025 promises to be a defining event. It will offer attendees a chance to engage in high-level discussions, forge strategic partnerships, and shape a sustainable digital future.
