Saudi Aramco and IBM have announced plans to explore collaboration opportunities across artificial intelligence, agentic AI, automation, material science, and industrial technologies. The announcement took place during IBM’s THINK Boston event alongside senior executives and industry representatives.
The initiative will combine IBM’s enterprise platforms, consulting capabilities, and research expertise with Aramco’s industrial operations, energy sector knowledge, and large-scale data resources. As a result, both companies aim to develop practical solutions for complex industrial environments.
Additionally, the collaboration will focus on applying artificial intelligence, hybrid cloud technologies, and advanced automation systems across industrial and energy operations. The companies also plan to examine use cases involving mission-critical infrastructure and operational systems.
Focus on Industrial Efficiency and Innovation
The partnership aims to improve operational efficiency, reliability, and innovation across large-scale industrial processes. Furthermore, both organizations intend to explore technologies that support automation and intelligent decision-making in demanding operational environments.
The collaboration also reflects growing interest in agentic AI systems capable of supporting autonomous industrial workflows. Consequently, the initiative could accelerate digital transformation across the energy and manufacturing sectors.
In addition, IBM and Aramco will evaluate advanced material science applications and emerging technologies designed to improve industrial performance and long-term scalability.
Partnership Builds on Decades of Cooperation
Aramco and IBM have maintained a working relationship since 1947. Over the decades, the partnership has evolved from early enterprise systems toward advanced digital and AI-driven technologies.
Moreover, both organizations have continued to focus on innovation and large-scale industrial modernization throughout multiple phases of technological development.
The planned collaboration remains subject to final agreements between the two companies.
