Apple has introduced the new iPad Air powered by the M4 chip, bringing faster performance, improved connectivity, and new capabilities with iPadOS 26. As a result, the device delivers stronger performance while maintaining the same starting price as the previous generation.
Moreover, the new model includes more memory and improved graphics performance, allowing users to handle demanding tasks such as editing and gaming more efficiently. In addition, the device supports Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard, which expand productivity and creativity for students, professionals, and creators.
The tablet comes in two sizes: an 11-inch model designed for portability and a 13-inch version that offers a larger display for multitasking. Meanwhile, both models are available in four finishes and support Wi-Fi 7 and advanced wireless connectivity.
“iPad Air gives users more ways than ever to be creative and productive, offering powerful performance and incredible versatility to help them turn their ideas into reality,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “With its blazing performance thanks to M4, incredible AI capabilities, and game-changing iPadOS 26 features, there’s never been a better time to choose or upgrade to iPad Air.”
Enhanced Performance with M4
The M4 chip significantly boosts performance, enabling users to work and create from virtually anywhere. For instance, tasks such as video editing, photo compositing, and content creation run faster and more smoothly.
The chip features an 8-core CPU and a 9-core GPU, delivering up to 30 percent faster performance compared with the M3-powered model. Furthermore, it provides up to 2.3 times faster performance compared with devices powered by the M1 chip.
In addition, the advanced GPU supports second-generation hardware-accelerated mesh shading and ray tracing. Consequently, users experience more realistic graphics, improved lighting, and detailed reflections during gaming and professional rendering tasks.
AI Capabilities and Faster Connectivity
The new iPad Air also introduces enhanced artificial intelligence capabilities powered by the upgraded Neural Engine. As a result, the device can run AI-driven features more efficiently across everyday apps and professional tools.
Moreover, unified memory increases by 50 percent to 12GB, while memory bandwidth reaches 120GB per second. Therefore, users can process complex AI models faster and manage intensive workloads with greater efficiency.
At the same time, new connectivity chips improve wireless performance. The N1 chip enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity, while the C1X modem delivers faster cellular speeds and improved energy efficiency.
iPadOS 26 and Expanded Productivity
The device also benefits from new capabilities introduced in iPadOS 26. For example, the updated interface includes a redesigned windowing system that helps users organize and switch between apps more easily.
Additionally, the Files app receives improvements that allow users to manage documents and folders more efficiently. Meanwhile, the Preview app enables users to view, edit, and mark up PDFs and images directly on the device.
Accessories further enhance productivity. Apple Pencil supports sketching, note-taking, and creative work, while Magic Keyboard offers a trackpad and function keys for improved typing and navigation.
Customers can pre-order the new device starting March 4, with availability beginning March 11. The 11-inch model starts at $599, while the 13-inch version begins at $799.
