Apple to launch brand new version of CarPlay in 2023

At WWDC 2022 in June, Apple unveiled the newest version of CarPlay, promising enhanced compatibility with in-car services including climate control and FM radio, support for multiple dashboard displays, customized settings, and more. The next iteration of the CarPlay experience is coming to automobiles from Acura, Audi, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Porsche, Volvo, and more, and Apple says we can expect to hear about the first ones in late 2023. According to MacRumors, the top five features that users are anticipating in the new CarPlay are listed below.

The latest iteration of CarPlay will be accessible on all of a car’s screens, ensuring a consistent experience between the infotainment system, the instrument cluster, and any other screens in the dashboard. According to Apple, CarPlay will be specifically designed for each new vehicle model’s display.

The new CarPlay interface will be able to communicate with the various gauges on a vehicle’s dashboard, such as the speedometer, tachometer, odometer, fuel gauge, engine temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, and more. Apple says that drivers will have different options for how their instrument cluster looks and is set up, including brand-specific layouts.

In the newest version of Apple CarPlay, you’ll have direct access to the climate settings of your vehicle, including the ability to change the temperature of the air conditioning or heating system, the speed of the fan, and the status of the heated seats and steering wheel.

The new CarPlay interface relies heavily on widgets, which display information such as the time, distance, fuel economy, upcoming events, weather, incoming calls, and the status of any HomeKit-enabled devices, such as garage doors. The widgets can also be viewed and navigated directly from the instrument panel.
