Apple Tests Orchid Watch Face Design
Apple is developing a simplified version of the Modular Ultra watch face for its standard Apple Watch models. As a result, the new design aims to bring a popular Ultra feature to a broader user base. At the same time, the update reflects Apple’s focus on optimizing experiences for smaller displays.
The watch face, internally codenamed Orchid, is currently under testing as part of watchOS 27. Consequently, it is expected to debut during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June. In addition, the release aligns with a broader software update cycle across Apple’s ecosystem.
Simplified Design for Smaller Displays
The redesigned watch face retains the large digital clock from the Modular Ultra layout. However, it removes several data-heavy elements found in the Ultra version. For example, Apple has eliminated the central complication, upper complication row, and the outer data ring.
As a result, the interface becomes cleaner and easier to read on smaller screens. In addition, the layout includes a row of three circular complications at the bottom. Therefore, users can still access key information while benefiting from a less crowded display.
This adjustment ensures better usability without sacrificing functionality. Moreover, it adapts a previously dense interface into a more balanced design suited for standard Apple Watch models.
Integration with watchOS 27 Updates
The new watch face forms part of the watchOS 27 update cycle. Consequently, the software release is expected to focus on AI enhancements and performance improvements. At the same time, it aligns with updates across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS platforms.
In the near term, Apple plans to release watchOS 26.5, which will introduce a new themed watch face. Meanwhile, watchOS 27 is expected to launch publicly later in the year. Therefore, the Orchid watch face represents an early step in Apple’s ongoing efforts to refine its wearable software experience.
