Apple Smart Glasses Leak Reveals New Designs and AI Features

Apple smart glasses frame designs

Apple is currently testing four distinct frame styles for its upcoming smart glasses. Specifically, the options include a large rectangular design similar to Wayfarers, as well as a slimmer rectangular frame inspired by Tim Cook’s style. In addition, the company is exploring both larger oval or circular frames and a smaller refined version of the same shape.

Moreover, the frames may come in black, ocean blue, and light brown finishes. As a result, the company aims to create a product that feels instantly recognizable, similar to its other wearable devices. Instead of using standard plastic, the design relies on acetate, which offers both durability and a more premium feel.

Furthermore, the glasses will feature front-facing cameras arranged in an oval layout, surrounded by indicator lights. This design choice helps distinguish the product visually from competitors while also reinforcing its identity.

AI-Driven Features and Ecosystem

Rather than focusing on augmented reality, the glasses emphasize AI-powered functionality. Therefore, they will connect to an iPhone and use integrated cameras, microphones, and sensors to enhance everyday tasks. For example, users will be able to receive notifications, capture photos and videos, and play music.

In addition, the device will support hands-free interaction through an upgraded version of Siri. Notably, the system is expected to include two cameras. One will handle high-resolution photo and video capture, while the other will support computer vision and environmental awareness.

At the same time, the glasses form part of a broader wearable strategy. This approach includes camera-equipped AirPods and a wearable pendant. Consequently, these devices aim to provide Siri with visual context about the user’s surroundings. Earlier this year, hardware teams received prototypes, and mass production is currently planned for December 2026.

Timeline and Market Position

The smart glasses are expected to be announced either later this year or in early 2027. Following that, a consumer release is planned for spring or summer 2027. Meanwhile, the company has chosen to design the frames in-house instead of collaborating with an eyewear brand.

This decision highlights confidence in its industrial design capabilities. Additionally, the project, internally known as N50, is being developed by the same team responsible for its mixed-reality headset. As competition in AI wearables intensifies, this product aims to stand out through design variety and tightly integrated features.
