Apple Set to Launch Dual-Camera iPhone Air 2 in Spring 2027
Apple is developing a second-generation iPhone Air, internally known as V62, with plans to launch the device in spring 2027. The upcoming model is expected to introduce a second rear camera while also delivering several hardware upgrades. Furthermore, the device forms part of a broader strategy to reshape the company’s iPhone release schedule.
Upgrades Aim to Address First-Generation Shortcomings
The next iPhone Air is expected to tackle some of the most common criticisms of the original model, which debuted in September 2025 as the company’s thinnest smartphone at 5.6mm. Although the device offered a slim design, it featured only one rear camera and relatively modest battery life. As a result, sales fell short of expectations, and production reportedly slowed later in the year.
Current plans suggest the new model will include dual rear cameras, pairing a 48-megapixel ultrawide lens with the existing 48-megapixel main sensor. In addition, the smartphone is expected to feature a larger battery, the A20 Pro chip built on a 2-nanometer process, and a vapor chamber cooling system derived from the iPhone 17 Pro lineup.
New Release Schedule Takes Shape
The iPhone Air 2 plays a key role in a revised launch strategy. Instead of unveiling the entire iPhone lineup each September, Apple reportedly plans to split releases across two seasons.
Under this approach, the premium iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the company’s first foldable iPhone would arrive in fall 2026. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and the refreshed iPhone Air are expected to launch in spring 2027, likely during March.
Reports indicate that the second-generation iPhone Air was always intended for a 2027 debut. Therefore, the revised timeline may reflect long-term planning rather than a delay linked to first-generation sales performance.
A Busy Roadmap for 2027
The iPhone Air 2 is expected to join several major product launches in 2027. Alongside the smartphone, Apple reportedly plans to introduce camera-equipped AirPods, a second-generation foldable iPhone, and a special 20th-anniversary iPhone.
The anniversary model could feature a curved glass display and a front-facing camera hidden beneath the screen. However, Apple has not publicly commented on any of these reported products or launch plans.
