Apple has become the second company in history to reach a $5 trillion market capitalization, just one day after reclaiming its position as the world’s most valuable company from Nvidia.
The iPhone maker’s shares climbed on Monday, lifting its market value to about $5 trillion. Meanwhile, Nvidia’s stock dropped nearly 5%, reducing its valuation to around $4.77 trillion and allowing Apple to retake the top position. Earlier, Nvidia became the first company to close above the $5 trillion mark in October 2025, driven by strong demand for its AI chips.
Steady Growth Drives Apple’s Rise
Unlike many technology giants, Apple reached the milestone through consistent gains instead of a single breakthrough. So far in 2026, its stock has risen nearly 24%, making it the strongest performer among the “Magnificent Seven” technology companies. In contrast, Tesla, Microsoft, and Meta have all posted losses this year.
Moreover, investors have responded positively to Apple’s measured approach to artificial intelligence spending. While several rivals continue to invest heavily in AI infrastructure, Apple has maintained a more disciplined strategy. At the same time, concerns about rising AI investment costs have weighed on semiconductor companies. As a result, AI hardware stocks have struggled, and the broader semiconductor sector has also experienced notable declines over the past month.
Smart Home Expansion Could Fuel Future Growth
Meanwhile, Apple is preparing to expand its smart home ecosystem with several new devices expected later this year. The upcoming lineup reportedly includes a 7-inch smart home hub with a built-in camera, an updated Apple TV, a new HomePod, and indoor security cameras.
Additionally, the smart home hub, now expected around September 2026 after an earlier delay, will feature the next generation of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence. Earlier this year, the company also previewed software enhancements such as 4K HomeKit Secure Video, AI-generated clip summaries, and natural language automation shortcuts.
As Apple broadens its smart home portfolio, it will compete more directly with established players in the connected home market. Therefore, the expansion could create another long-term growth opportunity while strengthening the company’s ecosystem beyond the iPhone.
