Apple Launches M5 Chip, Powering Faster iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and Vision Pro

New Apple M5 chip reveal

Apple introduced its latest M5 chip alongside upgraded versions of the iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and Vision Pro. These new devices are now open for preorder, with shipping and in-store availability scheduled for October 22. The company emphasizes that the M5 chip delivers a significant performance boost, offering more than four times the peak GPU compute power compared to the M4. Johny Srouji, senior vice president of Hardware Technologies, stated that it “ushers in the next big leap in AI performance for Apple silicon.”

The M5 enables faster, smarter, and more efficient device performance. It also supports enhanced multitasking and power management, improving user experience across all product lines.

iPad Pro Gets AI and Connectivity Boost

The new iPad Pro now offers up to 3.5 times the AI performance of last year’s model and up to 5.6 times faster speeds than the version powered by the M1 chip. With upgraded connectivity, it includes the C1X cellular modem for up to 50% faster mobile data and an N1 chip that improves Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread communication.

Furthermore, the iPad Pro delivers faster storage speeds and charges up to 50% in just about 30 minutes. These upgrades reflect Apple’s intent to make the tablet function more like a laptop. With iPadOS 26, users gain access to intuitive window management, a Preview app, and the ability to organize files with custom folders.

The 11-inch iPad Pro starts at $999, while the 13-inch version begins at $1,299. Both come in black and silver.

Enhanced MacBook Pro and Vision Pro Performance

The latest 14-inch MacBook Pro showcases up to 1.6 times improved graphics performance and higher memory bandwidth, jumping from 120Gbps to 153Gbps. Storage speeds are also faster, ensuring smoother workflow transitions. Battery life extends up to 24 hours, allowing users to work longer without recharging. Prices start at $1,599, and the laptop is available in space black and silver.

Meanwhile, Vision Pro receives a major update with the M5 chip, replacing the previous M2. The upgraded chip enhances display rendering by 10%, supports refresh rates up to 120Hz, and accelerates AI-driven features by 50%. Battery life improves by 30 minutes, reaching up to 2.5 hours of general use and three hours of video playback.

In addition, the new Vision Pro includes a Dual Knit Band for greater comfort, available in small, medium, and large sizes. Pricing remains unchanged at $3,499. This update aligns with reports that Apple is gradually shifting focus toward developing smart glasses rather than heavily redesigning its VR headset.
