Apple’s AI delays have sparked a class action lawsuit accusing the company of false advertising. The lawsuit alleges that Apple misled consumers by heavily promoting its AI capabilities, known as Apple Intelligence, which were expected to be available with its latest iPhone releases. Instead, the products reportedly offered only a limited or entirely absent version of these features.
According to Axios, the suit claims that Apple’s extensive advertising across digital platforms and television created clear consumer expectations. The promotional efforts, the lawsuit contends, were part of a strategy to drive premium upgrades and differentiate Apple from competitors amid the race for advanced AI features.
The complaint notes that Apple recently pulled an ad campaign promoting the AI capabilities of Siri from YouTube but has not retracted similar representations made since summer 2024. The suit, filed last week in federal court, seeks unspecified damages for customers who purchased Apple products under these expectations.
The legal action comes as Apple struggles to catch up with competitors like Amazon and Google, which have introduced more advanced AI tools. The delay in enhancing Siri – originally scheduled for this year but now postponed to 2026 – has even led to internal changes, including the replacement of John Giannandrea, former head of search and AI at Google, with Mike Rockwell, the creator of Vision Pro.
