Anthropic officially released its newest frontier AI model, Claude Opus 5, on July 24, 2026. Additionally, the new release delivers near-top-tier performance at half the operating cost of Claude Fable 5. Consequently, enterprises can access high-level reasoning for $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens. Furthermore, the system operates as the new default engine on Claude Max and the strongest tier on Claude Pro. In contrast to older releases, Opus 5 achieves breakthrough benchmark scores while drastically reducing operational expenses.

On major software engineering benchmarks, Claude Opus 5 sets new industry standards. For example, on Frontier-Bench, the model more than doubles the performance of Opus 4.8 at a lower cost per task. Similarly, on CursorBench 3.2 at max effort, Opus 5 scores within 0.5% of Fable 5’s top performance. Moreover, on ARC-AGI 3, it solves novel problems at three times the rate of competing systems. Scott Wu, CEO, noted: “On FrontierCode 1.1, Claude Opus 5 approaches Fable-level performance at half the cost.” In addition, Conor Kiernan, CTO, stated: “Claude Opus 5 made large-scale changes across our Fundamental Research Assistant codebase, adapting to feedback throughout an agentic workflow and explaining its reasoning more clearly than any model we‘ve used.”

Specifically, when given an unviewable machine part drawing, Opus 5 created its own computer vision pipeline to extract the geometry. As a result, the system successfully built a full 3D FreeCAD model where other models failed repeatedly. Furthermore, Richard Pham, Evals and Product Lead, observed: “Claude Opus 5 checks its own work the way a real frontend developer would.” However, Anthropic intentionally limits the model’s capabilities in specialized cybersecurity workflows.
