AMD is advancing its local AI strategy with a new category called Agent Computers, designed to run AI agents continuously on consumer and professional systems powered by Ryzen AI Max processors. As a result, the company is positioning these systems as the next stage in personal computing. At the same time, this approach emphasizes on-device processing over cloud dependence, which reduces latency and operational costs.

Transition to Agent-Based Computing

AMD outlined how multiple AI agents can operate simultaneously on a single machine, enabling coordinated workflows across design, analytics, and software development. Consequently, a single device can shift from handling isolated tasks to managing interconnected processes. Moreover, these agents function locally, which allows them to execute tasks without relying on external infrastructure.

In addition, the architecture supports unified memory, so models, datasets, and tools share the same environment. This design improves efficiency while maintaining consistent performance across workloads. Therefore, systems can scale from a single agent handling basic tasks to multiple agents executing complex pipelines in parallel.

Hardware Foundation and Ecosystem

The Agent Computer concept centers on the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, which integrates CPU cores, graphics, and a dedicated neural processing unit. As a result, the platform supports demanding AI workloads within compact systems. Compatible devices include the HP Z2 Mini G1a and the Corsair AI Workstation 300, both designed for high-performance local AI execution.

Furthermore, these systems offer configurations with up to 128GB of unified memory, which enables support for large-scale language models approaching 200 billion parameters. Pricing starts below $2,200, making advanced AI capabilities more accessible to enterprises and developers. Meanwhile, industry data indicates growing adoption of AI PCs, with organizations actively deploying or evaluating such systems for near-term use.

Market Movement and Industry Positioning

AMD continues to expand its AI roadmap alongside this launch.
