Amazon Unveils Budget-Friendly Color Kindle for Readers

New Kindle Colorsoft models on display

Amazon has expanded its Kindle lineup with two new versions of its color-screen e-reader. The newly introduced Kindle Colorsoft is priced at $249.99 and comes with 16GB of storage. In contrast, last year’s Signature Edition costs $279.99 and includes 32GB of storage, wireless charging, and an auto-adjusting front light.

In addition to the base model, Amazon also revealed a Colorsoft Kids Edition priced at $269.99. This kid-friendly bundle includes the 16GB Colorsoft, a themed protective cover, and a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids Plus. Despite the lower cost, the new models maintain the full-color display, which was a major selling point of the original release.

Customer Demand Drives New Kindle Color Options

Since its debut, the Kindle Colorsoft has proven popular. According to Amazon, readers spend significantly more time on the device compared to traditional Kindles. Encouraged by this engagement, Amazon stated in a blog post, “Our customers have loved reading Kindle in color on average, they spend more time on Kindle Colorsoft and read hundreds more pages than on our other Kindle devices.”

The new additions aim to broaden appeal while offering options for both budget-conscious buyers and young readers. Moreover, the more affordable version helps make color reading accessible without sacrificing too much in features.

Amazon Addresses Past Display Complaints

Not long after the launch of the Signature Edition, some customers reported a yellow band appearing on the screen. In response, Amazon temporarily halted shipments of that version. Now, the product listing acknowledges that “a small number of customers have reported a yellow band.”

To resolve the issue, Amazon spokesperson Connor Rice confirmed the company implemented “a combination of software and display adjustments.” These fixes aim to ensure a smoother experience going forward.

Although these new models reduce storage and a few features, Amazon seems confident that the demand for color reading will continue to grow.
