Amazon Launches Digital Arabic Library With ALC

Amazon Digital Arabic Library storefront

The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, has launched the Digital Arabic Library storefront on Amazon, expanding global access to Arabic-language books. Through this initiative, more than 38,000 titles are now available to readers worldwide, including over 1,000 offered at no cost. As a result, the project addresses a long-standing shortage of accessible digital Arabic content despite the scale of Arabic-speaking audiences.

Expanding access to Arabic digital content

The Digital Arabic Library showcases the breadth of Arabic literary and intellectual production across genres such as history, science, health, memoirs, fiction, and non-fiction. At the same time, the collection continues to grow in both Kindle eBook and Audible audiobook formats. Consequently, readers can explore contemporary writing alongside established classics within a single digital destination. In addition, free titles lower entry barriers for new readers and encourage wider discovery of Arabic literature.

Technology-driven discovery and reader experience

Drawing on Amazon’s technology infrastructure, the storefront integrates cloud services and digital advertising tools to improve navigation and discovery. As a result, readers can browse more than 33,000 Kindle eBooks and over 5,000 audiobooks with the support of ratings and reviews. Meanwhile, the visual design reflects Arabic cultural heritage through calligraphy-inspired elements and regional aesthetics. Together, these features make it easier for readers to find relevant titles while engaging with Arabic content in a familiar digital environment.

Supporting publishers and future growth

Beyond reader access, the Digital Arabic Library supports publishers as they adapt to digital publishing formats. Therefore, the initiative strengthens discoverability while broadening global distribution for Arabic works. In addition, the inclusion of audiobooks responds to changing reading habits and expands listening options for Arabic-speaking audiences. Over the next three years, the collection will continue to expand through partnerships with publishers across the Middle East and North Africa. Ultimately, the initiative advances the digitisation of Arabic books, supports the regional publishing ecosystem, and connects a global audience of more than 400 million Arabic speakers with their cultural and literary heritage.
